‘Setting Direction:  Letting the story lead’

Jean Franczyk, Director, Museum of Science and Industry, Manchester

Monday 18th November 2013, Mansfield Cooper, 4.10, 5-6.30pm

The Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester (MOSI) has existed in one form or another for about 50 years and is now celebrating its 30th year on its historic site on Liverpool Road. Through a masterplanning exercise, staff at MOSI set out to articulate its central narrative – where science met industry and the modern world began. This talk will centre on the importance of starting with this narrative, and will discuss the challenges of sticking to it while aiming for the Museum to realise its potential as an internationally significant institution with a strong Manchester personality.

Jean Franczyk has been Director of MOSI since February 2012. She has more than 25 years experience in the non-profit, government and private sectors in both the UK and the US. She was formerly Director of Learning at the Science Museum Group (Science Museum, London, National Railway Museum, York, and National Media Museum, Bradford).

Everyone welcome!
