Curating Coral: Something Rich and Strange
Marion Endt-Jones, Postdoctoral Fellow, University of Manchester
Monday 3rd February 2014, 5-6.30pm, Mansfield Cooper, 4.10,
This talk will explore the rationale behind the Coral exhibition at Manchester Museum and reflect on the curatorial process. Marion will examine the challenges of organising a cross-disciplinary exhibition; the role of the ‘external’ curator; the benefits and limitations of collaborations between academics and (university) museums; and the role of impact and public engagement in turning research into exhibition practice.
Marion has recently completed a three-year British Academy Postdoctoral Fellowship based in AHVS. She is the curator of Coral: Something Rich and Strange at Manchester Museum (29 November 2013–16 March 2014). The exhibition is one of the outcomes of her research project ‘A Cultural History of Coral’.
